On the Road
We are currently at a Comfort Inn just outside Montrose, Colorado.
Yesterday the boys and I left Tina's house in Las Vegas and headed for Zion National Park. It was about a 2 hour drive so it wasn't even noon yet and we spent the afternoon enjoying the breathtaking views in the park.
From Zion we drove an incredible scenic route through lushy valleys and red rock canyons to the Ruby Inn just outside the entrance to Bryce Canyon. We had a great dinner, then Andrew went swimming while Adam and I took a walk and watched the sunset. After some homemade ice cream we called it a day--and it was a pretty fantastic day.
This morning we were up early and after a big breakfast we headed into Bryce Canyon. First we drove up to the top most point at 9316 ft so we could see the whole Canyon before us.
Despite the overcast wheather words can't describe how incredibly beautiful it is. Then we drove slowly back down stopping at each viewpoint to see even more incredible wonders. We didn't have enough time to do more than a short hike but we choose a path off Bryce Point which was magnificent.
The boys wanted to horseback ride along the Canyon Rim so we had arranged to do that in the early afternoon so after we grabbed a very rushed lunch we saddled up and followed the guide about four miles to the rim. Needless to say the breathtaking wonders we saw today are something none of us we forget very soon.
We headed out about three and drove across Utah to Green River where we stopped for some dinner, gas and a good stretch. Then we drove straight through to Montrose. Tomorrow morning we'll head for Colorado Springs via Gunnison and cross the continetial divide at Monarch Pass. We should be at Mom and Dads by early evening.
